Labor Day weekend is not only the end of summer, but it’s a time for last-chance getaways before fall activities consume our schedules. This year, temperatures were hot and college football kicked off (loud roar of applause from sports enthusiasts!). There was also a fun festival in Savannah, one that we attend every year.
The 2013 Savannah Craft Brewfest took place over this past weekend (August 30 – September 1) in of all places, downtown Savannah, Georgia. 🙂 The festival has a little something for everyone. We first visited the Brewfest where there were over 200 craft brews available to sample, food vendors and a great atmosphere along the river. Since it was the first weekend of college football, people wore their school colors and we experienced football talk along the way. We are diehard Carolina Gamecocks which seemed to draw a crowd and good conversation 🙂
The Brewfest wasn’t the only event that took place. There were additional food and craft vendors lining River Street. One of the local high school bands entertained the crowd near the stage and later that night, a large screen showed the Georgia vs. Clemson football game. What a great way to watch the game: outdoors and along the river!
If that isn’t enough, there were shops, restaurants and places to sit so you could watch the ships go by. Sitting on one of the many benches along the way when a ship comes in or leaves for the open waters will make you feel so tiny and in awe at just how large the ships are!
So, there you have it! Last weekend was the annual Grape Stomp and this weekend was another festival in Savannah, Georgia. Both events have a little something for everyone. Make sure to bookmark these dates for next year. I know we are planning to be there!
